UK Timeshare Industry Comes Home To Scotland

The Organisation for Timeshare in Europe (OTE) will be holding its biennial UK conference in Edinburgh on 22 May, reflecting the vitally important role that Scotland plays in the UK timeshare industry. The conference, to be held at Dynamic Earth, is being sponsored by Scottish Development International and will be opened by Scottish Minister for Enterprise Energy and Tourism, Jim Mather MSP.

Holding the conference in Scotland will recognise both the pioneering role that Scotland played in timeshare’s history – the first ever timeshare resort in the UK was at Loch Rannoch - but also the high quality of the resorts in Scotland, which are so important to the timeshare industry as a whole.

Kenneth Clark of Scottish Development International is happy to show its support for the OTE and timeshare in general. “We are supporting this year’s OTE UK Conference because timeshare demonstrates all that is good about the Scottish hospitality and tourism industry; professionalism, quality and uniqueness. If we are to attract more businesses to Scotland we need to be able to celebrate Scottish success stories and timeshare has certainly been one of these.”

Timeshare has come a long way since it started in Scotland in 1976 as UK chairman of OTE, Frank Chapman recalls:

“I was fortunate enough to open the first timeshare resort in the UK at Loch Rannoch. At the time this was a completely novel concept in holiday home ownership in the UK and it has proved incredibly popular, with 115,000 week long holidays now taken every year in the UK.”
