Endless Luxury and True Sustainability Come Together with the Opening of the Hacienda Tres Ríos Resort, Spa and Nature Park on the Riviera Maya.

After years of rigorous environmental studies and painstaking eco-friendly construction, Hacienda Tres Ríos resort, spa and nature park has opened on the Riviera Maya. The first resort of five carefully planned hotels in the Tres Ríos development, Hacienda Tres Ríos offers guests a luxury all-inclusive experience combined with the opportunity to explore and help preserve the area’s natural and cultural resources.

Located on 326 pristine acres with three distinct ecosystems — lush jungle, mangrove forests, and coastal dunes — Tres Ríos is home to three natural rivers, an estuary, 10 cenotes (freshwater springs), and a one-mile stretch of sandy white beach.
When completed, the Tres Ríos master plan will include five hotels with more than 1,700 suites, full- and part-time residences, a world-class marina and yacht club, an equestrian center, a premium spa, beach club, convention center, an estuary and nature park. The Tres Ríos Nature Park will include a visitor center, Mayan cultural center, estuary bird sanctuary and botanical garden. Approximately 150 acres or nearly half of the 326 acre lot will be maintained as a reserve with little-to-no development to ensure the perfect balance of human enjoyment while protecting the greatest natural resources.

Hacienda Tres Ríos

Hacienda Tres Ríos has 273 beachfront suites decorated with native materials and boasting breathtaking views of the sea. Each suite makes extensive use of local resources including furniture constructed from local mahogany and Mexican marble floors. The suites feature the finest linens, living areas with sofa beds, a pillow menu, terrace or private balcony, flat-screen satellite TVs, air conditioning, and wireless Internet
access. Built to help preserve the natural environment, the suites include low-flow water devices, automatic air conditioning and lighting controls, energy efficient appliances, and linens washed upon request.

The Endless Luxury all-inclusive experience at Hacienda Tres Ríos combines warm hospitality with lush room accommodations and exclusive access to the Tres Ríos Nature Park. The resort is also focused on providing an incredible gastronomic experience that ensures you never run out of choices. Under the inspiration of executive chef Oscar Orbe Quiroz, the resortoffers five specialty restaurants featuring
international, Italian, seafood and Asian fusion cuisine and El Alebrije the resort’s flagship dining experience that brings together the exotic flavors of true Mexican cuisine with the traditional décor of Jalisco, Puebla and Michoacan. The resort also has three bars, a patisserie, a pizzeria and a martini and tea time terrace. For guests who prefer a more private experience, 24-hour room service is included as are the services of a tequilier and a sommelier. Private beach or rooftop dining is also offered for an extra fee and the resort hosts an exclusive Exit Lounge with a private area for guests to stay and enjoy while they are waiting to head back to the airport.

“Hacienda Tres Ríos provides the perfect mix of indulgence and adventure, luxury amenities and environmental stewardship, exotic food and all the comforts of home,” said Orlando Arroyo, CEO of Tres Ríos. “Our guests never need to leave the resort to find the variety of experiences, pampering, education and immersion in nature and culture that create truly memorable vacations.”

The resort offers authentic Mayan spa services at the Ya’ax Ché Spa. The Spa’s philosophy is based on the Mayan belief that we are all connected, to each other and to nature. In order to restore balance, guests are guided to return to nature to find harmony.
All spa treatments seek to restore energy by reconnecting spirit, mind and body. The 13,900 square foot spa features two VIP couples suites with private hydro-therapy baths; Swiss showers; seven spacious treatment rooms; indoor and outdoor massage treatments; a co-ed lounge area with reflexology, cold plunge, indoor salt water pool, chromotherapy showers; a full body treatment menu; sauna and steam room, juice bar, and salon.

The resort also provides wedding services, a business center and a variety of ballrooms and facilities for groups and conventions.

Private Guest Access to the Tres Ríos Nature Park

Open for years as a popular day-trip destination, the Tres Ríos Nature Park now offers private access for hotel guests. In the park, guests can enjoy guided nature and canopy tours through mangrove forests, snorkeling in cenotes and rivers, a ropes course, a mile of white-sand beach, and a day camp for kids and teens.

The park is home to more than 120 plant species including rare and endangered bromeliads and orchids. Guided tours offer visits to the on-site greenhouse where the plant species were protected during construction and then replanted as resort landscaping. In 2007, the plant nursery produced more than 50,000 mangrove trees for local reforestation. Tres Ríos houses only native and regionally adapted plants to reduce overall water consumption and minimize the need for agrochemicals that can leach into the region’s
subsoil and aquifers. The park is also home to more than 90 species of birds and some rare mammals such as spider monkeys, jaguars, and sea turtles.

“There’s nothing more relaxing and reconnecting than jumping in the crystal clear water of a cenote deep in the jungle and floating slowly down to the beach,” said Arroyo. “There’s something for everyone in the park from bird watching to kayaking out the Mesoamerican reef – one of the world’s largest and most diverse marine ecosystems found just offshore.”

Dedicated to Sustaining the Region’s Natural and Cultural Resources

Since its inception, Tres Ríos has taken a holistic approach to sustainable planning and development under the guidance of strict environmental criteria and scientific study. The resort’s design and operational plan ensure the continued integrity of the region’s ecosystems.
“We believe that protecting our natural and cultural resources is key to our long-term success,” said Arroyo. “We are not only protecting this beautiful destination but we’re creating a model that truly serves visitors, the local community and our bottom line. The model may require a deeper upfront investment but we know it will pay off in long-term savings, guest and community loyalty.”

During construction, any endangered plant species were moved to the on-site greenhouse. All major construction occurred off-site with finished pieces assembled on-site, reducing noise and debris that could disrupt local ecology. Studies using digital water flow models informed construction of underground rivers designed to allow natural water flow ensuring the proper balance of nutrients and oxygen for healthy plant and water life. Prior to opening, all staff was trained on environmental management and given a list of eco-friendly local suppliers to work with.

Now that the resort is open, environmental management is handled by the Tres Ríos “EMS Green Team” of scientists and technical personnel trained to follow more than 250 sustainability strategies comprised of seven sub-programs. The EMS (Environmental Management System) team uses georeferenced digital aerial imagery and a state-of-the-art Geographical Information System to monitor environmental quality,
identify potentially unforeseen impacts, and implement corrective measures.

For maximum energy efficiency, cold water is extracted from deep underground sources and used to pre-chill on-site air conditioners. Drinking water is desalinated on-site using reverse osmosis purification and heat emanated by air conditioners is collected and reused for water heating. Recycled water from on-site treatment plants is used to irrigate green areas.

With the resort only open for a few weeks, the ecology team is already seeing significant energy savings. Using cold water to prechill the air saves 38 percent in energy usage while recapturing heat off the air conditioners to heat water has saved 75 percent. Use of high efficient lighting also reduces energy costs by up to 70 percent when compared to the energy needs of traditional bulbs.

Supporting Local Cultures

Beyond careful resource and wildlife stewardship, Hacienda Tres Ríos gives guests an opportunity to
help support local economies, preserve local culture and traditions and improve the quality of life in local
communities. Although the resort will have a strong economic impact by providing 1,000 local jobs (400 in
the hotel and park and another 600 with local suppliers of products and services), the management team wanted to focus resources on helping the region’s smaller, rural communities as well.
In order to bring prosperity to the local villages, the resort formed a relationship with Kanche, a non-profit adventure and cultural tour company based in Cancun that introduces travelers to authentic Mayan culture. Kanche has created tour offerings that directly benefit 13 Mayan communities across the Yucatan Peninsula.

“We learned so much developing the Cancun region and with the opening of Hacienda Tres Ríos we have
incorporated all the best practices for creating a luxurious escape that offers real opportunities to have fun, learn new things and help preserve local cultures and habitats,” said Arroyo. “From our government recognition as the gold standard for environmental development to our close ties with local non-profit organizations, a visit to Hacienda Tres Ríos is a truly unique and unforgettable experience.”

Vacation Ownership Opportunities

Beyond luxury hotel accommodations, Hacienda Tres Ríos offers guests a chance to extend that perfect
getaway into a lifetime of vacation memories. Two levels of membership provide the opportunity to return to Tres Ríos every year or exchange the time and choose from thousands of resorts around the world. Hacienda Tres Ríos offers private residences with up to 2,063 square feet of living space as well as upgraded La Herencia Villa memberships that include private butler, housekeeping and concierge staff, in-room chef dining and a private rooftop lounge.

The equestrian center offers riding, jumping and polo lessons on world-class horses and at night, the Club hosts traditional Hacienda-style feasts, a live equestrian show and entertainment.
