The Wyndham Championship has made its second annual contribution to Randleman, North Carolina-based Victory Junction Gang Camp.  Wyndham Worldwide, the tournament’s title sponsor, presented a check for $100,000 to camp executives at the Opening Ceremony as a part the company’s multi-year sponsorship of the Wyndham Championship.  The official charity of the Wyndham Championship, Victory Junction Gang Camp enriches the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a safe and medically-sound environment. 

“We are extremely excited and honored to again make a significant donation to the Victory Junction Gang Camp and continue our tradition of supporting local charities in the Piedmont Triad,” said Mark Brazil, Wyndham Championship tournament director. “There is a long history of support for the Camp that makes an extraordinary impact for our community but also for the thousands of families who they serve each year.”
Victory Junction Gang provides life-changing camp experiences to children with health issues, such as cancer, arthritis, hemophilia, diabetes and physical disabilities. Campers can enjoy fun and exciting activities like fishing, swimming, Wyndham Championship mini golf, arts & crafts and more, all within a medically-sound environment. The Camp was opened in 2004 by Pattie and Kyle Petty in honor of their late son Adam.

South Pacific Development Group Secures Land Deal For $450 Million Resort in Samoa

Hawaii-based South Pacific Development Group (SPDG) has obtained a 120-year lease for 600 acres of prime oceanfront land on Savaii Island in Samoa to develop the Sasina Village Resort.

The luxury resort’s first phase will feature a hotel, timeshare units, championship golf course, and cultural center to be followed in later phases by additional hotels, private residences and a recreational marina.
The overall development cost is estimated at $450-500 million.

SPDG CEO Jesse James and Faumuina Liuga Tiatia, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, recently signed the land lease agreement in Apia, Samoa. The size of the acreage and duration of the lease is unprecedented in Samoa.

“These transactions successfully demonstrate our company’s ability to be a leading player in an area destined to emerge as one of the South Pacific’s most sought-after tourist destinations,” said James.

SPDG is meeting with potential hotel partners, co-developers and investors interested in having a financial stake in its development projects.

“There’s been a tremendous amount of interest,” said James. “Our potential partners sense that Samoa’s unique cultural appeal and tropical beauty are about to be discovered by travelers yearning for a destination
that offers the rewards of ecotourism and cultural tourism and the South Pacific’s romantic allure.”

Sasina is located on Savaii’s rural north shore and is known for its adherence to historical Samoan traditions. The village of Sasina has additional acreage of pristine land set aside for development on which SPDG
has first right of refusal.

James says SPDG is committed to preserving Savaii’s culture, tradition and environment. “It’s what makes Samoa and Savaii special in the first place, and we want very much to keep it that the way.” Resort structures
will be less than four stories tall and setback 500 feet from the shoreline.

Leasi Vainuupo Nuusa, High Chief of the village of Sasina, said the project is a positive development for Sasina that will create job opportunities, spawn a new lumber industry, and allow farmers to sell produce to the resort.

Savaii is one of the South Pacific’s most serenely beautiful destinations. It offers an astonishing range of sights from volcanic craters, scenic waterfalls and lava tubes to rainforest canopy walks, blowholes, surfing, snorkeling, and lovely beach settings alongside traditional Polynesian villages.

Reservations Begin For Hotel In Space

Thirty-eight people have already made a reservation in the space hotel Galactic Suite. Four Spaniards will be the first to stay for 4 days at 450 kilometers from the Earth. The space tourism company introduced the first “spa” to be installed in space.

The Space Tourism Company Galactic Suite already has 38 reservations made by tourists who in 2012 will travel to the hotel to spend four days at 450 kilometers from the Earth. The trip, which  will cost 3 million euros, also includes 18 weeks of preparation for the tourists to acquire experience in  space. This preparation will take place on an island in the caribbean, where the participants can travel with their families.

Of the 38 reservations made through the company’S website (www.galacticsuite.com) since January 2008, 4 belong to people of Spanish nationality, while the rest is divided between people from Russia, USA, United Arab Emirates, Australia, China and South America.

The first “SPA” in space
The company is now working in the programme of activities that tourists will undertake during the four days. “Tourists come to the hotel with all the necessary items to stay, as if they were staying at the most extreme refuge on earth”, explained the founder and director of Galactic Suite, Xavier Claramunt. “This refuge will offer a mixed programme of reflection and exercise to seize the unique physical conditions encountered in space”.

One of the most innovative experiences that tourists can experience is the bathroom in zero gravity. To that end, the team of engineers and architects of Galactic Suite have developed the spa space, the first spa to be installed at 450 kilometers from Earth, one of the modules of the  hotel. The spa will float within acontaining a water bubble of 20 litres.

The tourists, already trained to avoid the effects of water in a state of weightlessness, can play with the bubble dividing it into thousands of bubbles in a never-ending game. In addition, the transparent sphere may be shared with other guests.

SPACEPORT ON AN ISLAND IN THE CARIBBEAN
The new Galactic Spaceport Suite, the first commercial spaceport in the world, will be built on an island in the Caribbean and the project  will be signed by the company Equip architecture, also based in Barcelona. Galactic Suite does not rule out building new spaceports in the future in other countries around the world, in order to facilitate accessibility to other hotels built in space to as many people as possible.

The spaceport of Galactic Suite incorporates, for the first time, a revolutionary space launch system designed to maximize security and minimize the impact on the environment. The team of engineers and architects of the space tourism company has designed an infrastructure  where the spacecraft will speed magnetic levitation and across a runway launch Maglev. This new technology is an accelerator suspended in the air over a road, being propelled forward by the repulsive (negative) and attractive (positive) forces of magnetism.

After reaching the speed of sound, the spacecraft is separated from the accelerator and Maglev will reach orbit (450 kilometers from the Earth) using its rocket engine. At the time of separation, the accelerator and brake will bring Maglev back to its starting  point to prepare for the next launch. The trail will take off at a length of about 3 miles that will allow the spacecraft to accelerate 1000 kph (620 mph) in less than 20 seconds.

The founders of the company explained that the Maglev technology “will  establish commercial flights into space toward our orbital hotels. The  most expensive part of any journey to LEO are the first few seconds – leaving the ground. This technology is very competitive in its cost in respect to other forms of space transportation, and is inherently safe and sustainable. ”

SPACE TOURISM COMPANY
Galactic Suite is a private space tourism company, founded in Barcelona in 2006, which aims to provide the first global experience of space tourism and which will combine an intensive programme of training astronauts to relax with a programme of activities on a tropical island as a process preparation to space travel.

Its ultimate goal is to make space tourism reach the general public to develop the first global chain of hotels in space. Under their plans, a first hotel in space could receive its first guests in 2012.

Island One Foundation Volunteers Gather An Estimated $10,000 Of School Supplies For Local Youth

More than 2,600 items were brought in by Island One Resorts’ team members

Island One Foundation recently concluded its school supplies drive for the launch of the 2008-2009 school year. More than 2,600 items were brought in by Island One Resorts’ team members in addition to a monetary donation that was given to a school in St. Croix. The total cost of items and monies donated was estimated at $10,000. Among some of the items collected were backpacks and calculators, as well as traditional school supplies. 
 
“The Foundation’s school supplies drive reinforces Island One Resorts’ focus on the family,” said Pamela Gould, president of Island One Foundation. “We are in the business of giving families the opportunity to cultivate special vacation memories together. By providing school supplies to local children in need, we can ensure that they will be able to create even more wonderful memories during their first day at school. Last year, the Foundation collected enough supplies to help the Coalition for the Homeless, as well as some area schools. Group RCI Gifts $100,000 Dollars To Christel House International Founder At Company Block Party

Over 900 employees and families of Group RCI, a world leader in leisure real estate and one of the Wyndham Worldwide family of brands (NYSE:WYN), gathered recently for the emotional reunion of RCI co-founder Christel DeHaan and many of her former RCI employees. The scene was a carnival-style block party at the Carmel-area campus of the world’s largest timeshare exchange company to raise funds for Christel House International, Group RCI’s global charity of choice. At the close of the event, DeHaan was presented with the unexpectedly sizeable donation of $100,000.
 
The 5-hour block party marked the celebratory conclusion of the ‘Summer of Christel House’, a six-week-long fundraising campaign created by RCI employees to raise both consciousness and cash for Christel House International which operates learning centers for impoverished children in Mexico, Venezuela, South Africa, India, and Indianapolis. Founded by DeHaan in 1998, the charitable organization seeks to break the cycle of poverty for children around the world and help them become contributing members of society.

“The passion demonstrated by the associates of RCI to help provide the 2,700 children of Christel House a better quality of life is both amazing and unprecedented,” marveled Geoff Ballotti, president and CEO of Group RCI. “Christel DeHaan created an incredibly caring culture at RCI many years ago based on honesty, integrity, sincerity and community service. It’s a culture which is alive and well nearly 35 years later.  And it’s a culture I’m both honored and humbled to be associated with.”

Congratulating the crowd on their creativity and caring, DeHaan was preparing to accept the donation of monies raised by local RCI employees when it was revealed that those had been combined not only with contributions from global colleagues as well as block party proceeds but also a match from the company’s corporate office, a sum totaling $100,000.00. “There are not enough words to describe how I’m feeling”, choked an emotional DeHaan in response to the unexpected generosity.  “From day one, RCI has distinguished itself through its people. This is a gift of love for which I am humbled and grateful.”

SPI And Starwood Hotels & Resorts In Condo Hotel Software Accord

Systems Products International (SPI) has entered into an agreement with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. to provide them with integrated condo hotel software for Starwood-managed and franchised properties.

Under the agreement, SPI will provide software for managing owner reservations, owner rental and equitable rotation of rental units. SPI will integrate the solution with Starwood’s property management system from Galaxy Hotel Systems LLC, Galaxy LightSpeed®, to provide a real-time solution for condo hotel properties.

“As we began adding condo hotel properties to our portfolio,” says Starwood Vice President of Information Technology, North America Mark McBeth, “we set out to find the most complete, specialized software and a vendor that could integrate seamlessly into our existing property management system infrastructure. We found both in SPI.”
